Eye Care

Keeping An Eye On Your Pet’s Vision

Protecting the health of your pet’s eyes is an important part of maintaining his or her overall health. At All Pets Animal Hospital & 24-Hour Emergency Care, our regular health exams include an examination of the eyes.

Our hospital is able to diagnose and treat most eye diseases. We offer complete eye exams and maintain an excellent relationship with a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist for consultation on more difficult cases. Some of the testing we can conduct at our hospital includes:

  • Schirmer Tear Testing

This test checks to make sure the eye is producing enough tears to keep it moist.
  • Tonometry Testing

This test measures the pressure inside the eye and helps to diagnose conditions such as glaucoma.
  • Dilated Fundus Exam

Use of eye drops that dilate the pupils allows our veterinarians to examine the interior of the eye.
  • Fluorescein Stain Test

This test uses an orange dye to detect the presence of ulcers in the eye or damage to the cornea.

All Pets Animal Hospital & 24-Hour Emergency Care encourages pet owners to be mindful of their pet’s eyesight. Watching for any changes in your pet’s behavior and noting changes in the condition of the eyes can provide excellent early detection of any troubles. WebMD has an excellent article on a basic check of your pet’s eyes that you can do at home. Some symptoms of difficulties that you can watch for include:

  • Blinking
  • Redness
  • Discharge
  • Rubbing or pawing at eyes
  • Dilated pupil
  • Pinpoint pupil
  • Cloudiness to the eye
  • Bulging or protrusion of the eye
