Many of the health issues that arise in exotic pets can be due to their unique husbandry needs. When caring for an exotic pet, it is vital that the owner research the proper environment and diet for the pet. Clients can find links to many useful websites with a variety of exotic species information on our helpful links page. Please call us to discuss any specific questions you have about the care of your pet.
Some of the many types of exotic pets we treat include:
- Birds—All species
- Mammals—Pet pigs, rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, mice, rats, hamsters, gerbils, sugar gliders, hedgehogs, and others
- Reptiles and amphibians—Non-venomous snakes, lizards, turtles, tortoises, and others
- 4H and FFA animals—Cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, and rabbits
All Pets Animal Hospital recommends semi-annual physical exams for most exotic pets. As with dogs and cats, exotic pets benefit from physical exams for early detection of health issues. Our experienced veterinarians can track a pet’s baseline vital statistics and detect if changes in those vitals indicate a health issue that should be followed up on.
Our doctors also maintain excellent relations with experts in a variety of exotic pet fields so that, if a species they are not familiar with presents with an unusual condition or if an owner has questions that we do not know the answers to, we have the resources available to find that information for them.
People in Katy sometimes find injured wildlife and wonder where to turn. We partner with the Texas Wildlife Rehab Coalition and the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in cases of injured wildlife, as there are special considerations to take into account when dealing with wild species.
If you have any questions about your exotic pet, please feel free to contact us and speak with one of our technicians or veterinarians.
